The Official Biography of Winston Churchill, initiated by Randolph Churchill but completed by Martin Gilbert, is an epic piece of scholarship about a singularly epic life, comprising eight mammoth main text volumes and - so far - seventeen accompanying document or "Companion" volumes. The eight main text volumes were published between 1966 and 1988. Publication of the Companion volumes continues today. These three volumes accompany the second volume of Churchill's Official Biography and cover the years 1901 to 1914. These years encompass Churchill's early political career, from his election to Parliament at the age of 26 to the outbreak of the first World War in 1914, which saw Churchill serving in the powerful Cabinet post of First Lord of the Admiralty. Here is the three-volume set of Volume II Companion volumes. All three volumes are the British first edition, only printing, very good copies in very good dust jackets. The red cloth bindings are clean, tight, and square with bright spine gilt, showing a few small corner bumps and light wear at the spine ends and edges. The contents of all three volumes are crisp, clean, and bright with no spotting and no previous ownership marks. The red-stained top edges retain uniform, unfaded color across all three volumes. All three dust jackets are unclipped and complete. The notoriously fade-prone title print on the spines is sunned on Parts 2 & 3 but still clearly legible. The dust jackets show no tears or losses, but are just slightly age-toned with light overall soiling to the Part 3 spine and wrinkling to the Part 2 & 3 spine ends. The dust jackets are protected in removable, archival quality clear covers. Note that these are large, heavy books and may require additional postage. Bibliographic reference: Zoller A302b.
