Ritchie s, Third Edition Revised, Charles Desilver, Philadelphia, 1860, folding frontis map, advert end papers, 312 pp plus adverts, blue blind stamped cloth, 8 x 5.5 , 8vo. In as-is condition. Poor. Binding quite worn with heavy soiling. Corners rubbed to cardboard. Spine perished with splitting at joints and loss at head and tail. Head poorly repaired with antiquarian cloth strip that is soiled and worn. End papers soiled at marigns. Old jam d ownership on fly dated 1863. Map is torn with slight chipping and toning. Colors remain bright and clean. Ex-library. Old hand ownership on title. Binding broken, signatures loosened. Textblock is toned at edges with soiling in the margins. Some markings in old hand in the margins. Delicate and fragile overall. Please see photos. Scarce with Map of Wisconsin. Great Charles Desilver advert end papers. Desilver was an active map publisher on the middle part of the 19th century. He was the partner of Thomas Cowperthwait Company, and ended up purchasing some map copyrights from Mitchell. He ended up selling the copyrights back to Mitchell after the business failed. The entirety of the map is handcolored, with each county delineated in a distinguishing color from its neighbors.
