A very scarce, third edition of Mary Collier's famous poetic riposte to Stephen Duck, 'The Woman's Labour'. Disbound, as issued.Collated, lacking the final two leaves, being one leaf of text and one blank.This is the third edition of the important rebuke in which Collier catalogues the daily tasks of a working woman, both outside the home and at the end of the day. This poem was written as a rebuke to Duck's 'The Thresher's Labour'. In addition to 'The Woman's Labour' this pamphlet contains 'The Three Wise Sentences', which is a paraphrase of the tale of the Darius contest told in 1 Esdras. In this work she couples moral reformism with a certain amiable accommodationism, or compliance with the will of fathers.Collier was a leading figure in the self-taught, labouring class tradition in 18th century poetry.
