Includes account of life of Spenser by Rev. Henry John Todd. Pine green cloth (bubble pattern) boards with tooled parallel lines at the margins. These are very rubbed at the edges; especially at/near the corners. This continues on to the spine; where the raised bands, in particular, demonstrate the rubbing effect. Internally, the pages have mild tanning which becomes more pronounced (with some foxing) on the preliminary pages; including on title, frontispiece/tissue guard pages. There is a certain bible-like elegance to this book with its AEG, marbled endpapers, red cotton divider (detached) and its individual page layout. Each page is framed by a b/w border and divided into two columns. Ffep has ink and pencil inscriptions. pp. 562. 8vo. This is an 1859 reprint of the 1845 edition.
