Beschreibung
A collection of the novels of Henry Fielding. Containing: Amelia (complete in three volumes) The History of Tom Jones: A Foundling (complete in four volumes) Jonathan Wild Joseph Andrews (complete in two volumes) With the author's preface, and an introduction by G. H. Maynadier. With tissue-guarded frontispieces to each volume. Henry Fielding (22 April 1707 8 October 1754) was an English novelist and dramatist known for his rich earthy humour and satirical prowess, and as the author of the novel Tom Jones. Fielding never stopped writing political satire and satires of current arts and letters. His lack of financial sense meant that he and his family often endured periods of poverty, but he was helped by Ralph Allen, a wealthy benefactor who later formed the basis of Squire Allworthy in Tom Jones. After Fielding's death, Allen provided for the education and support of his children. Ten volumes of twelve only (missing Miscellaneous Writings in two volumes). In red cloth bindings. Externally, sound, though with some dampstaining to the boards and some bumping. Six hinges are strained. Internally, bindings strained. Ink signatures to the recto of the front free-endpaper of two volumes. Pages have some marginal age-toning and the occasional spot, but are otherwise clean. Good.
