Beschreibung
The Works of Mrs Hemans ; With a Memoir of Her Life by Her Sister, William Blackwood & Sons, Edinburgh 1840 Felicia Hemans was the most prolific of the female poets of the Romantic era in the nineteenth century held in high regard by Wordsworth and Shelley and a less acknowledged influence on Tennyson and Longfellow. Her work has seen quite a resurgence in recent years. Following her death in 1835 her sister penned a memoir which became a single volume of the seven volume set of her works. This set was published by Blackwood & Sons in Edinburgh with individual volumes dated between 1841 and 1849. The books have been beautifully bound by Catherall Bookbinders of Chester in full grain brown moroccan leather with gilt and blind tooling to front and rear and to the spine five raised bands with gilt tooling and lettering in-between. The binding is absolutely straight and tight, the leather has a small amount of rubbing, there are no inscriptions or tears to the pages which are clean and devoid of foxing save to a few early pages. All page edges fully retain their gilt tint. A very smart set. Will be carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 00560
