Beschreibung
The complete works of Thomas Hood attractively bound in uniform gilt-decorated calf. Edited and with notes by his son, the humourist Tom Hood. Volumes one to six published 1862, with the final volume appearing the following year. Chronologically arranged works from 1821 to 1845, including his best known verse "The Song of the Shirt" and "The Bridge of Sighs", his "Whims and Oddities", and his novel Tylney Hall. With a frontispiece portrait of the author. Thomas Hood (1799 - 1845) was an English poet and humourist. Hood was a regular contributor of prose and poetry to the leading literary and comic magazines of his day, including Punch, the Athenaeum and The London Magazine. Perhaps most famous as a humourist, his spirited verse also frequently displays a keen social conscience and considerably poignancy. Hood was described by William Michael Rossetti as the "finest English poet" between Shelley and Tennyson. Complete in seven volumes. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally very smart, with minor shelfwear only. Spines are slightly faded, but the gilt detailing and Morocco labels are still bright. Internally firmly bound. Spotting to the first and last pages of most volumes, but pages are otherwise clean and bright throughout. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers SET57-C-2
