Map, laid down on a board, used as a promotion for a possible trans-continental railroad. Several small water stains near the bottom. Outline color. Inset map by W. L. Dearborn, of a route for the proposed railroad. With a large area of California and the West colored in yellow, this map was clearly designed to capitalize on the Gold Rush. Published by John Haven, who did other promotional maps around this time. Also shows the track of the U. S. Exploring Expedition under Charles Wilkes from 1838 to 1842.
