Inhaltsangabe: By the outbreak of World War II, two Midwestern Americans raised nearby but unknown to each other have grown from precocious and charming children into accomplished and substantial men. One strives to live a life of honor, intending to do only good deeds, while the other acts as dictated by his insatiable ego. One of them also appears to be a killer. Although they pursue far different career paths, the two men fall in love with the same woman and meet in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where both are engaged in the Manhattan Project at the dawn of the atomic era. Their ideas about using the bombs are vastly different; this conflict adds to the escalating tension between them and builds to a shocking conclusion. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, two extraordinary German women struggle to reconcile their feelings of love and imposed subservience with the moral shortcomings they recognize in both the men they love and in their country. They work together, losing their innocence and risking their lives, attempting both to halt the Nazi slaughter of the disabled and to deliver their children from the horrors of Nazi Germany. The book transports the reader with its authentic recreation of momentous wartime events, including the dramatic air raid on Ploesti, Romania, the experiences of scientists living and working in Los Alamos, and the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. It compels readers to revisit America?s decision to use its unprecedented power as it did, and also to consider whether reincarnation and supernatural visitation best explain otherwise inexplicable matters. The book depicts the adventures of a large cast of linked characters, both real and fictitious, throughout Europe, in the far Pacific, and in the United States from 1920-1948. This cross-genre, upmarket fiction will appeal to action-adventure, mystery, suspense-psychological and romance readers alike, as well as those who enjoy purely historical fiction.

Inhaltsangabe: In Worthy of the Stars, an American man and a German woman find their beliefs about love and family, loyalty and patriotism upended by World War Two: He in the course of military service and conflict regarding the decision to bomb Hiroshima; she in uncovering and resisting the Nazi slaughter of the disabled in Project Aktion. Their mutual emergence from innocence makes them outliers to their opposing causes and forces them to risk their lives and identities confronting the evil spawned by powerful and devious men. Their stories are depicted with a large cast of interlinked characters, both real and fictitious, in England and Germany, in the far Pacific, and in the United States, between 1920 and 1947. Their adventures challenge conventional notions of history, and also suggest a unique explanation for inexplicable matters, including the real meaning and purpose of universally unsettling dreams and visions.
