Beschreibung
Yankee Hill was one of the preeminent "Yankee" character performers of the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the 19th century. Besides his work as a "Yankee" comic actor, Hill was persuaded to lend his name (and at times his talent) to a number of short-lived Traveling Minstrel Troupes. These Troupes performed both as a Blackface, Negro Minstrel Troupe and as White "Yankee" Minstrels - a format that for a time was more popular in the Southern States. This performance seems to be with Hill's name but not his presence. George Handel Hill was an American comic character actor. Best known as "Yankee" Hill, he was born in Boston, the son and brother of celebrated musicians, and his early career was given over to acting n minor roles and to offering recitals based on New England character sketches. With the rise of the popularity of similar figure in American comedy, Hill quickly fud stardom as the best Yankee interpreter of his day. Of the various actors listed on the broadside, a couple of them have some claim to fame. Ned Turner wrote several joke books and there was a William P. Valentine who was a vaudeville entrepreneur. The broadside is printed on thin paper but it feels like high rag content and has survived quite well. There is some fading and wrinkling at the top and bottom. ; Folio 13" - 23" tall; 1 pages.
