Beschreibung
400 Pages. A large heavy book with black boards and a paste-on front color illustration. Attractive illustrated endpapers. Front endpaper has one line gift inscription. No other marks or stamps. Pages are tight and clean. A hint of age-tanning to the page borders. Hinges are a bit loose but still firmly attached. A Pulitzer Prize novel that was made into a movie with Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman. A classic family and animal story that is set in rural Florida after the civil war. It is the story of Jody and his father, Penny and their love for animals that will give you an appreciation for the farming pioneers who worked hard to carve out a better life. List of the 12 color Illustrations by N.C. Wyeth: Jody and the Flutter-Mill - He threw himself on the weedy sand close to the water and abandoned himself to the magic of motion, The Fight With Old Slewfoot - Penny ran desperately into the heart of the fracas, Penny Tells the Story of the Bear Fight - Penny Baxter, no bigger than a dirt-dauber, could outhunt the best of them. And he could sit, as he sat now, weaving a spell of mystery and magic, that held these huge hairy men eager and breathless, The Dance of the Whooping Cranes - The cranes were dancing a cotillion as surely as it was danced at Volusia, The Fight at Volusia - The fight was in the sandy road in front of the Boyles' store, The Vigil - It seemed to Jody that he was alone with his father, The Burial of Fodder-Wing - Buck set out toward the south hammock. Ma Forrester followed him. Mill-wheel took hold of her arm. The others dropped in behind them, The Storm - The familiar pines were like trees at the bottom of the sea, washed across not with mere rain, but with tides and currents, Penny Teaches Jody His Sums - Penny would start him on his reading lesson, or his sums, and then before either of them knew it, would be off on a tale, The Forresters Go To Town - Buck and Mill-wheel and Lem were crowded together on the wagon seat, The Death of Old Slewfoot - They capered together and shouted and yipped until their throats were hoarse and the squirrels were chattering all about them, and Jody Lost - The shore had receded alarmingly. Ahead of him, the open water seemed to stretch without an end. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 11630
