Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: John A. King III, MD, is a native of Illinois, but received his BS and MD from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. After World War II, he was stationed in Tsingtao, China with the Navy for two years. On return to civilian life in Rochester, he married his sweetheart, Martha Remington King, and completed his three years of resident work in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. King learned a lot about communication with patients, compassion, and caring while working with two senior internists in private practice. After the birth of his 4 children, Dr. King moved to Southern California to work for 20 years as a member of the Kaiser-Permanente Organization. In Rochester and Southern California, Dr. King was on the attending staff at the University of Rochester and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where he taught residents the importance of effective communication with patients. Dr. King retired from active practice in 1986 and lives in Southern California.
