Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

131 S. Umschlag berieben, sonst gutes Exemplar. - The Ancient Ones begins its journey through the incredible world of indigenous America with the Inka of Peru. From the birthplace of the Sun and Moon we visit the Island of the Sun in Lake Titikaka, the ancient sites of Tiwanaku, Machu Pijchu, Qosqo.P'isaq, Ollantaytambu and encounter the history of a civilization through its oral traditions. The journey continues with the Maya of the Yucatan in Mexico and Guatemala. Following a trail of myth and mystery through the Popol Vuh, the Maya Book of the Dawn, we witness the ponderous sculptures of the Olmec, and travel to the jungle pyramids of Palenque, Uxmal.Tulum, Kabah, and Tikal. We progress through the trials and tribulations of the Toltec serpent-god Quetzalcoatl as it appearsin the architecture of Chichén Itzâ as the Maya god K'uK'ulKan. The book concludes its journey by honoring the Cliffdweller of the American South-West, the so-called Anasazi, of whom little is known. From Monument Valley to Canyon de Chelly, from Mesa Verde to Chaco Canyon and Bandelier, the history of the Cliffdweller can only be glanced at through architectural vestiges and myths told by their living descendants: the Hopi, Zuni, Keresan, and Tiwa peoples. Three years in the making, The Ancient Ones presents seventy-two stunning photographs by author/photographer Hans Li. Using black and white film exclusively, he captures the subtle play of light on stone and mist, of shadow on cliff walls.of water pouring from temple porticos, and of stone lifting heavenward out of the impassable tangle of the jungle. The accompanying text reveals the story of emergence and adventure of the gods and heroes as they were first told around campfires many centuries ago.
