Edith Breburda

The award-winning book author Edith E. M. Breburda, D.V.M., Ph.D. was born 1964 in Munich, Germany. From 1983-1995 she studied Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and did undergraduate studies in Agriculture and Psychology at high ranking German Universities and earned a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in 1995. In 1996, she successfully completed a Ph.D. with the highest distinction.

The methods she developed were successfully utilized in humans in October 2008. It changed the treatment and therapy of juvenile bone fractures and resulted in ongoing bone growth. Previously, such fractures left the child with a shorter limb.

In February 2001 Dr. Breburda came to the United States to work as a scientist with a premier and internationally recognized expert in Biochemistry at one of the top ten US Universities. During her research, she discovered a new cell line responsible for immune tolerance resulting in new insights into developmental biology, vaccine development, HIV treatment, organ transplantation and cancer research.

Dr. Breburda is internationally recognized as an outstanding scientist with exceptional research contributions in the area of biomedical research.

She published over 250 original scholarly articles on science and contemporary bioethical issues. Her publication strategy is to help the non-scientist to understand modern biotechnologies, as we all have a responsibility for the well being of our descendants and of the environment. She is the published author of four popular science books and four children books. The Catholic Press Association of USA and Canada awarded the Children Book, "Felix the Shrine Cat," as the 3rd best children’s book of the year 2017.

Die 1964 in München geborene Wissenschafts- und Medizinpublizistin, Dr. Edith E. M. Breburda studierte von 1983-1988 Medizin, danach Tiermedizin und einige Semester Psychologie und Agrarwissenschaften in Gießen, München und Berlin. Sie hat ein Vordiplom in Agrarwissenschaften und approbierte 1995 als Tierärztin.

1996 promovierte sie mit dem Prädikat „sehr gut“ zum Dr. med. vet. mit einer in der Orthopädie des Uniklinikums Marburg angefertigten bahnbrechenden Arbeit, welche die Behandlung der kindlichen Fraktur revolutionierte.

Danach folgten wissenschaftliche Tätigkeiten in Forschung und Lehre an der Unfallchirurgie im Uniklinikum Gießen sowie an der Veterinärmedizinischen Fakultät der Universität Leipzig.

2001 ging Dr. Breburda an das Department of Biochemistry, University of Wisconsin-Madison/USA, wo sie als Wissenschaftlerin im Labor des weltberühmten Vitamin D. Experten - Prof. Dr. Hector F. DeLuca - forschte. Später wechselte sie in das National Primate Research Center, wo sie immuntolerante Zellen entdeckte, was unser Verständnis für die immunhistologischen Vorgänge während einer Schwangerschaft, aber auch in Bezug auf Tumorerkrankungen, HIV und Impfstoffe erweiterten.

Dr. Breburda ist zweisprachige Autorin von zahlreichen wissenschaftlichen und populärwissenschaftlichen Publikationen, fünf Monographien und vier Kinderbüchern, die sie auch illustrierte. 2017 erhielt sie einen Award der Catholic Press Association für USA und Kanada - für Ihr Kinderbuch “Felix the Shrine Cat“.
