I grew up in rural northern California, graduated from UC Berkeley and served in the U.S. Army. Later joined academia, earning two graduate degrees in the social and environmental sciences. Set aside my PhD program in 2017 to write action-packed, exploration-focused science fiction and never looked back.

Now reside with a badass wife, two cats, and a black lab who wants to be a cat in the Willamette Valley. We stand for Black Lives Matter, LGBT+ rights, social equality, & democracy.

Readers who like my work tend to be free thinkers who appreciate long tales about regular people. Tolkien, Rowling, Clavell, Michener, and Asimov are the authors I'm most often speaking to in my head when I write.
