Sam Shriver EdD

SAM SHRIVER, EdD, is Executive Vice President at The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS), the global home of the original Situational Leadership® Model. With over 45 years of direct experience with the Situational Leadership® framework, Sam is one of the world’s foremost authorities on leadership development, executive coaching, and organizational behavior.

A graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy (B.S., 1978), Pepperdine University (MBA, 1981), and North Carolina State University (Ed.D., 1994), Sam has designed and developed over 200 custom leadership and coaching programs across industries, sectors, and global markets. His work has been formally recognized by Bersin, Brandon Hall, Training Industry, Inc. and the Association for Talent Development.

For a decade, Sam co-authored a nationally recognized leadership column with Marshall Goldsmith for Training Industry Magazine—one of the field’s most widely read publications. He is the author of From Coach to Coach and The Four Moments of Truth, and co-author of Lessons from Leaders alongside Marshall Goldsmith and Kathy McDermott. Sam is also the founder of the Random Act of Kindness Tour and is a member of Legatus International.

Sam’s career came full circle in a way that defines the arc of this book: he first encountered the Situational Leadership® Model early in his career through its founder, Dr. Paul Hersey, and has spent the decades since helping leaders around the world apply it. Now, as co-author, with Suzie Bishop, of this landmark new edition, he is reintroducing the model to the next generation of leaders who need it most.
