Peter Koslowski is a German philosopher and business ethicist who teaches in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He developed his approach to business ethics as the theory of ethical economy in his book Principles of Ethical Economy (German 1988, English 2000; translations into Chinese, Russian and other languages)
He was born in Göttingen, Germany, in 1952 and grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau and Tübingen. He studied at Munich University, Tübingen University, and Virginia Tech and holds a doctorate degree im Philosophy and a Master degree in economics from Munich University. He has been Full Professor of Philosophy at Witten/Herdecke University, Germany; Founding Director of the Hannover Institute of Philosophical Research in Hannover, Germany; Visiting Scholar-in-Residence at Liberty Fund Inc., Indianapolis, USA; and Fellow,International Center of Economic Research, Turin, Italy. Since 2004, he is Professor of Philosophy at VU University Amsterdam, Netherlands.
His books on business ethics and economic philosophy include Ethics of Capitalism (with a comment by Nobel Prize winner James M. Buchanan; seven German editions); Principles of Ethical Economy; and The Ethics of Banking. Conclusions from the Financial Crisis. His books in German on systematic philosophy and philosophy of religion comprise Gnosis und Theodizee. Der leidende Gott des Gnostizismus (Gnosis and Theodicy. Peter Koslowski is Chair of the Working Group Business Ethics and Business Culture, German Philosophical Association. He holds two honorary doctorate degrees.
