He also invented a velvety surfaced printing paper that he later manufactured commercially and very successful.Founded by Father Junipero Serra at the present site in 1771, San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo is the second of nine missions that he would eventually establish in California. It must have been his favorite as well as he made this mission his headquarters. He is buried under the sanctuary floor at the Carmel Mission.
