I've been a Commando, a PE teacher and a security guard at the UK Mission to the UN in New York, but it was the terrifying experience of bringing my first son back from the hospital that prompted me to write Commando Dad. Everything you read, and all the classes, prepare you for the birth - not the entire life beyond.
As a new dad, what I wanted was a basic training manual for new baby troopers; a parenting version of the 'Basic Battle Skills' that I was given when I joined the army. And that is what I hope I have created with Commando Dad.
After 10 years as a stay at home dad to my three troopers, Sam, Jude and Liberty, I am still learning new things about parenting. I've created a website: www.commandodad.com, that not only has extra resources (such as videos about how to hold, feed, burp, change and bath your baby troopers) but also forums where dads can share tips and advice with me - and other Commando Dads.
