Denis O'Brien

Denis O'Brien divides his time between Scotland – where he conducts an amicable relationship with alcohol; and Greece – where he is learning financial management and fiscal probity. His wife, a tirelessly voluble Dubliner, expends much effort explaining to him that the world is neither as opaque nor as hostile as he and the characters he writes about are inclined to view it. Instead she assures him that all that is required to achieve enlightenment is that he should diligently conform to the tenets of her domestic regime. Despite his assiduous compliance he is unconvinced so far that the practice has endowed him with the covenanted wisdom. Nevertheless he is advised for reasons of health and security to continue to observe that uxorial discipline.
