Charles Danten

Charles Danten was born in 1952, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, shortly after his parents emigrated from France. At the age of five, his family moved back to a small village in picturesque Northern France where he acquired an unrelenting passion for the animal world. At the age of eleven, his family moved again, this time in Montreal, his home ever since. He is fluent in both French and English.

A graduate of Agricultural Sciences (MacDonald College of McGill University) and Veterinary Science (University of Montreal), Dr Danten practiced veterinary medicine for eighteen years, ten of which in his own veterinary clinic in Montreal. At different times in his career, he cared for pets, as well as farm and zoo animals. A growing awareness of certain undesirable aspects of the human-animal bond led him to sell his clinic and abandon his profession. He is presently working as a scientific translator.

Dr Danten is the author of the bestseller Un vétérinaire en colère published in 1999 by VLB in Quebec, Canada (ISBN 2890057194). This book has been published in Spanish with the title Un veterinario encolerizado (2008). Up to this day, the issues raised in it are the talk of animal lovers and activists all over the world, as far as Poland, Australia and Taiwan.

An English and Polish version of the Le prix du bonheur. Le mythe de l'animal-roi will be published soon. Dr Danten is also putting the finishing touches to a sequel which explores the founding credo of the human-animal relationship.
