Mareike Hachemer

Mareike Hachemer is a teacher at an Upper Secondary School in Germany. Her subjects are German, English and Drama. She was a finalist of the inaugural Global Teacher Prize and has supported the Global Teacher Prize as a jury member. As a member of the Pestalozzi Programme, the Council of Europe programme for the professional development of teachers and education actors, she supports an education that fosters intercultural competences, democratic values and active citizenship.

She studied German and English Language, Literature and Culture and worked as an editor for interjuli - an international children's and youth literature research publication. In her TEDx talk, she stresses the importance of the teaching profession for making the world a healthier, more sustainable and fairer place.

She is an author for several education magazines and an education consultant as well as a founding ambassador of TeachSDGs. The United Nations and UNESCO have chosen Mareike Hachemer as a delegate and speaker at their headquarters in New York and other international conferences. The United Nations Association of Civilizations made her a fellow for their delegation to human rights organizations in North Africa and the Middle East.
