Tom Vandel

I'm a simple freelance writer in Portland who has written four books, including a memoirish crime noir thriller (A Killer Story), a collection of short stories (The Broken World), and two art book collaborations on the pandemic and Uber driving (with artist Karen Wippich). The pandemic book (Strange Days: A Pandemic Journey) features 48 of Wippich’s original, reality-altered paintings matched with prose poems I penned that chronicle the early days of Covid. Before that, Karen and I produced a similar art/journal (Driving Strangers: Diary of an Uber Driver), which includes snarky musings about the different folks I ferried about Portland as an early Uber driver. It's never for the money. Good thing.
