DR. ENG. MOSTAFA RADY

Engineer · Innovator · Entrepreneur · Author

Dr. Eng. Mostafa Rady is an electronics engineer specializing in telecommunications, with advanced academic training in engineering, further developed at the Politecnico di Milano. His professional development was further enriched through research, development and innovation activities within major international technology organizations, including IBM, Siemens and Triumph-Adler, complemented by continuing professional education in management, marketing and communication.

The combination of academic education, applied research and industrial experience shaped, from the beginning, a multidisciplinary approach focused not only on understanding technology, but above all on developing new solutions and transforming them into practical applications.

The defining thread running through his career, however, cannot be confined to any single professional field. Rather, it is a constant curiosity about what technology can make possible before it becomes commonplace.

From the earliest stages of his career in research and development, Rady worked in environments where electronic design, information technology and innovation were used to address problems for which established solutions did not yet exist. His experience at IBM, where he contributed to the development of innovative solutions and inventive work that became part of the company’s technological portfolio, helped shape an approach that would remain with him throughout his career: identify a problem, understand its limitations and seek a solution capable of overcoming them.

Over time, the engineer was joined by the entrepreneur. His technical experience expanded into project management, the creation and development of industrial initiatives, and the building of international collaborations. Electronics, information technology, industrial automation, energy and the life sciences became different fields in which to apply the same principle: transforming knowledge and innovation into practical applications.

A particularly significant aspect of his career has been his long-standing interest in the intersection between engineering and medicine. His involvement in projects in which electronics, materials, instrumentation and scientific research can contribute to solving clinical problems strengthened his conviction that some of the most important innovations emerge precisely at the meeting point between different disciplines.

An engineer rather than a physician, Rady has found in the biomedical field a natural extension of his professional culture: understanding the scientific and technological problem, engaging with specialists, and helping to create the technical, organizational and institutional conditions required for an innovation to be evaluated and applied.

It is through this ability to connect different worlds that his interest in technology transfer has progressively taken shape. Throughout his career, he has acted as a link between scientific expertise, industry, entrepreneurship, specialists and institutions, working across European, Egyptian and Middle Eastern contexts.

His command of Italian, English and Arabic, together with many years of experience across different cultures, has helped him develop an international perspective that extends well beyond commercial activity. For Rady, transferring technology also means understanding the people, institutions and environment in which that technology must ultimately become a reality.

There is another constant in the way he approaches innovation: an interest in the thresholds of change. During his professional life, he has witnessed the transformation of electronics, the spread of the personal computer, the development of industrial automation and, more recently, the rise of artificial intelligence and new biomedical technologies. What interests him most is not only what a new technology can accomplish today, but what it may make possible — or no longer necessary — tomorrow.

Already in the early 1990s, Mostafa Rady’s professional and personal journey became the subject of a publication devoted to the relationship between immigration, work and technology. In the volume “Immigrazione, lavoro e tecnologia”, promoted by Fondazione IBM Italia, an entire chapter was devoted to his experience as an Egyptian engineer in Milan, as a testimony to and recognition of the professional path he had pursued during those years. The volume was not written by Rady; it was produced by other authors, in part to document and recount his experience.

Writing represents the most recent phase of a much longer journey. After decades spent participating directly in technological change, Rady has progressively turned his attention to its consequences for individuals and society.

His work as an author is therefore a natural continuation of this path. In “Artificial Intelligence for Everyone”, he addresses the understanding and practical use of artificial intelligence; in “The Human Advantage”, he shifts the focus to human value, work and independence in the age of AI; and in “Il Paradosso Europeo”, he extends his reflection to Europe’s demographic, migratory and social transformations. These are different themes that ultimately belong to the same underlying question: how does humanity change when technology changes — and society changes with it?

From this perspective, innovation and progress are not ends in themselves. Their value depends on the ability to transform scientific and technical knowledge into concrete opportunities for people and society.

From electronic research to entrepreneurship, from technology transfer to the new frontiers of biomedical technology and artificial intelligence, Mostafa Rady’s career reflects a clear continuity: the determination to understand change as it is happening and, whenever possible, to help turn it into reality.
