Fine and still sealed in the publisher's shrinkwrap. "This magnificent compendium is the fourth in a series of catalogues describing selections of rare books and other material in the Oak Spring Garden Library, a collection assembled by Mrs. Rachel "Bunny" Lambert Mellon. Herbaria describes sixty-three books and manuscripts about herbs and includes exquisite illustrations selected from the works themselves. Spanning the fourteenth to nineteenth centuries, and featuring works by Brunfels, Culpeper, Monardes, and Linnaeus, among others, this authoritative catalogue will prove fascinating to botanists, bibliophiles, garden historians, and herbalists alike." - From the publisher.

Press of Robert Lomascolo (illustrator). small folio. illustrated stapled paper wrappers. (xiv), 36 (6) pages. Limited to 200 numbered copies and contains two original leaves (4 pages) printed in 1591 by David Sartorius in Ingolstadt of his Disputationes. This copy is a mock-up (softcover) copy which contains two leaves, but is not numbered. Minor soiling to covers, a couple pencil notations throughout. Retired Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Professor Herbert H. Johnson has written the foreword as well as provided the leaves from an incomplete volume in his impressive collection of rare books. The scholarly text, written by noted type historian and book designer Mark Argetsinger, explores how the types of French masters such as Claude Garamond came to be used in Sartorius printing house in southern Germany. The peregrinations of early French types is a subject that deserves more study, and this book will be of interest to all those concerned with the history of the book, history of typography, descriptive bibliography, and printing of the Counter-Reformation. illustrated stapled paper wrappers.

9.4 x 12.6 inches. cloth, with gilt-stamped decoration on upper covers, title labels on spines. 656, 818 pages. In fall 1996, the Cotsen staff began compiling a multi-volume book catalogue of the research collection, with support from the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections and the Technical Services Department of the Princeton University Library. Complete, this catalogue describes that portion of the non-circulating collection of printed books which the donor Lloyd E. Cotsen has gifted to Princeton University up to the year 2000. The material comprises approximately 23,000 items out of a total of over 60,000 in over thirty languages published during the fifteenth through twentieth centuries. In May 2000, volume I, the twentieth century A-L, was published, and in December 2003, volume II, the twentieth century M-Z. 12,403 books are described there, with detailed notes on their illustrations, contents, bindings, and previous owners. As so many children's books appear without dates of publication on their title pages, every attempt has been made to assign an accurate date of issue based on internal evidence and authoritative reference sources in print and on-line. Designed by Mark Argetsinger, the text of each volume is lavishly illustrated with over one hundred and fifty illustrations in duotone and process color and printed on Mohawk Superfine paper. The volumes are bound in olive green Japanese cloth with the front covers stamped in gold and full-color patterned endpapers. cloth, with gilt-stamped decoration on upper covers, title labels on spines.
