Samson Ray is the author of Ashes Don’t Run, the first book in his fiction series. Raised in Chicago, he draws inspiration from his upbringing and the complicated ties between people, the places they call home, and the memories they carry.

Samson wrote Ashes Don’t Run to explore a truth at the heart of the story: no matter how far you run from your past, distance alone won’t erase it. Through Jay’s journey from Chicago to Milwaukee, he explores love, loss, survival, and the hope of starting over—even when unfinished business threatens that new beginning.

His goal is to tell stories that feel real, with imperfect characters facing difficult choices. He wants readers to connect with their struggles and consider what it takes to face the past while building a different future.
