La pièce n'a alors pas de titre mais il s'agit de la pièce qui portera le titre Engrenage. Cette pièce fut créée à la Comédie-Parisienne le 16 mai 1894. Carré l'aura donc refusée. [69-2].

Brieux la recevra effectivement le 27 juillet 1897, grâce à l'intervention de Roujon comme le montre une autre lettre que nous avons cataloguée. [69-2].
