New York: Brentano's, 1943, 31 plates, 281pp., fair only dust-jacket, chipped around edges, and with 4cm strip across rear panel torn and laid in loose, good red cloth, light wear to covers. "fictionized biography" of a 17th century Polish Queen, written in English by Bates-Batcheller when she was in France during the German occupation; the manuscript miraculously saved. The author came from a wealth Boston family, which helped endow the Boston Public Library, but she was educated and lived in France, returning to the US in 1941. Her ample wikipedia page categorizes her with Florence Foster Jenkins, as a wealthy socialite who recorded her unfortunate singing performances and wrote numerous memoirs. - Could be fun.
