Sm 4to leather with 5 raised spine bands with gilt decoration to the compartments. 151pp. Latin. Frontis, title-page illustration of a lamassu with the above inscription "Virtute invidiam vince" meaning "overcome with envy", (Printer's Device of Frederic Leonard). Fair copy. Edges quite worn, corners scraped and lacking leather to all but the spine's upper compartment and portions of the lower. Boards rubbed and scratched. 4 previous owner's names/inscriptions to the front endpapers with a 4"x1.5" clip to the upper corners. And owner's name and stamp to the front pastedown with 2 additional inscriptions to the title page. 2 additional names to the rear endpapers. Light pencil marginalia. The paper remains fairly nice considering the books age with only minor browning/staining. Inquire if you need further information.
