Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 3rd Edition. The Dangerous Skies by Air Commodore A.E. Clouston. Publisher: Cassell, 1954, third edition, printed same year as first edition. Very good hardback with jacket, no inscriptions, a little rubbing and fading to edges, 187 pp., b/w plates. Un price-clipped jacket is marked, rubbed and chipped, with small tears at edges, slight fading to spine. The author became one of the first two civilian test pilots appointed to the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. He broke Amy Johnson's London to the Cape record and lowered the time for the round trip by five days. He broke all existing records for the London to Australia flight and London to his native New Zealand and back. These achievements in the thirties are recorded along with the author's day-to-day work as a test pilot, his early research into ice formation on aircraft, research into the use of barrage balloons as a means of defence, his offer of £1,000,000 by a Jewish syndicate if he would bomb Hitler on a ceremonial parade, and his tested methods of lighting up bombers from the sky when the Luftwaffe began night bombing.
