Bound in publisher's cloth, paper spine title. Boards have wear present to the extremities of the boards (boards rubbed and worn, paper label title is faded and worn). No ownership marks present. Text block is stained along the fore-edge. Text is free of marks save for a note present on the title page noted who the author is. Binding tight and solid. The first three editions were published anonymously. The second and third editions have six engraved plates of views in addition to the three fly plates. These are omitted from the 4th & 5th editions which have extra vignettes of views. The author revised this before his death. The fourth edition was edited and enlarged by John Davy, his brother. Davy was President of the Royal Society. "It is distinguished by its scientific outlook, its serene Philosophy and extensive Information.
