Vintage reference photograph from the 1970 film, showing actor Marty Feldman as a satyr, gleefully reading a salacious paperback novel. An ad man is tasked with creating a new, sexy image for a frozen porridge brand. A satirical farce directly ridiculing British conservative activist Mary Whitehouse, who in 1970 was staging a war on gratuitous sex in advertising (and many other fields of British life). Shot on location in London and Surrey. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good, lightly wavy and edgeworn, with light soil to the bottom left corner.

21 of 22 mimeographed pp., lacking the final page, secured with pin to top left. Name of Fraser Hayes inked by production staff to top right of title page. Some age-toning and light bumping, a little creasing to title page, otherwise a near fine copy. First edition. SINGING GROUP THE FRASER HAYES FOUR'S COPY, WITH THEIR NAME TO TITLE PAGE. The radio show Round The Horne ran between 1965 and 1968. The brainchild of Barry Took and Marty Feldman, the pair wrote the first three series together, Feldman leaving before the show's fourth and final outing in 1968. Week after week, razor-sharp writing combined with peerless characterisations to produce one of British radio comedy's finest, funniest, and filthiest flowerings. Each week's episode of Round The Horne featured a musical number from singing group The Fraser Hayes Four. This copy has the group's name written to the top right of the title page by a member of the production staff, and though unmarked, was clearly distributed to them during rehearsals for the show. It's instructive to follow this script while listening to the recording. Three types of cuts were made. There are the usual trims and tightens, made to keep to the regulation running time. One whole routine featuring Bill Pertwee as a psychotically tense relaxation therapist has been excised (the show always struggled to find a strong identity for Pertwee, who was eventually dropped for the fourth and final series). And then there is a cut surely insisted on by the BBC: in a riotous Julian and Sandy episode set in a pet shop, the following exchange takes place: 'HUGH [PADDICK] : I've got the cutest little Pom. KENNETH [HORNE]: Really? KEN [WILLIAMS} : Would you like a Peke?' Barry Took and Marty Feldman would often put material into the scripts that was obviously untransmissible in order to smuggle other borderline jokes past the BBC. The strategy was often successful, and made Round The Horne one of the edgiest half hours on 1960s radio. This copy lacks the final page -- actually the final half page, having listened to the show -- but is otherwise in remarkably good condition. A very scarce survivor.

26 mimeographed pp., secured with pin to top left. Some notes to title page regarding sound effects needed for the episode. Some age-toning and light bumping, a little creasing and wear to title page, otherwise a near fine copy. First edition. Production copy, the annotations to title page suggesting use by a member of the sound/SFX department. It's instructive to follow this script while listening to the show recording. Among the usual trims to tighten up the show and keep to time, there were two cuts made this week relating to people in the news. A reference to Pierre Cardin and his less than interesting clothing range was taken out, and so was this exchange between Kenneth Williams and 'David Frost': 'KEN W.: Well, Mr. Frost, what are we going to do with you. It's really very difficult -- we can't seem to place you anywhere, can we? I mean, you can't sing, you can't dance, you can't tell jokes, you can't play an instrument -- why don't you get a job outside show business? BILL [as DF]: I can't. I'm a star.' A very scarce survivor.

22 mimeographed pp., secured with pin to top left. Name of Douglas Smith inked by production staff to top right of title page. Some age-toning and light bumping, otherwise a near fine copy. First edition. PROGRAMME ANNOUNCER DOUGLAS SMITH'S COPY, WITH HIS NAME TO TITLE PAGE. It was customary for shows of the period to have an announcer introducing proceedings but in Round The Horne Douglas Smith was given jokes and roles in sketches on top of his traditional duties, integrating him firmly into the fabric of the show. This script bears Smith's name, written in ink by production staff, on the title page -- the show's scripts were often distributed to cast and crew members so adorned -- but is otherwise unmarked. A very scarce survivor.
