Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is a nice hardback first edition in what appears to be a second impression dustjacket? Certainly, there are reviews of the book reprinted on the inside front flap which makes me suspect it must be a second impression jacket. But the jacket is, of course, a bit of a prize in its own right. A lovely drawing by Mervyn Peake, of a soldier seemingly searching into the future. The book has a dated signature and an attractive blind stamp on the front end paper. No other marks. It was a wartime economy issue, so the jacket is a delicate thin paper effort, and all the more valuable as most of the copies available are usually found without one.
