Hardcover. Zustand: Poor. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Poor. First Edition. First Edition. Hardcover. 11 1/4" X 8 3/4". 90pp. Heavy wear to dust jacket with soiling, toning, rubbing, and chips to covers, corners, and edges. Top half of rear cover of jacket is completely torn away. Rubbing, bumps, and shelf wear to covers, corners, and edges of green paper over boards. Boards are warped. 11 signatures to front free endpaper, most of which are dated 1987. Soiling and rippling to pages throughout. Pages lack notatoin. Binding is sound. Though admittedly worn, all photographs are present and visible. A stunning photographic and written account of 1980s Cabbagetown and the history of the neighborhood up to that point, a neighborhood "on the edge of downtown Atlanta.an island of poverty in one of the South's most prosperous cities" (from front flap). Cabbagetown experienced a remarkable revitalization in the 90s, in part due to an influx of artists like Oraien E. Catledge in the 80s, and is now home to Cabbagetown District, a historic district listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the Krog Street Tunnel, Atlanta's focal point for street art, and Chomp and Stomp, a bluegrass and chili festival that includes a 5k. Catledge captures the desperation and community of Cabbagetown in the 1980s, when thousands of millworkers from Applalacia and Georgia's rural areas were suffering from the closing of Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill and a consequent social and economic crisis. A beautiful tribute to a remarkable neighborhood in the city of Atlanta.
