Nine chromolithographic leaves of mixed text and illustration (including title-leaf). Quarto. Later burgundy cloth, gilt. Sunned along spine and top edge. Small dampstain in bottom right corner, touching the image in five instances. Very good. A nice association, this being the copy owned by Helen French Soule, the great-niece of the author, Helen A. French, whose pen name was Ruth Chesterfield. Tipped in is a letter in which Helen Soule passes the book on to her relative, Amos Tuck French, whose bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown. The text is printed within paneled floral and geometric illustrations, further illustrated down one side by scenes from the story.
