The author of this book is of course Alexander Thayer, while Elliot Forbes revised that text, while Ian Curteis has edited it and has written the Introduction. The book comes with its original 'Near Fine' slip case. The book was printed at St Edmunsbury Press on Saint Paul's Wove paper. It is quarter bound in two shades of Feincanvas cloth by CUP. The spine titles and front cover design use gilt. The endpapers are printed with examples of the composer's manuscript scores. The book has 614 numbered pages. There are circa 50 photographic illustrations, a mixture of colour and black and white. The size of the slip-cased book in inches is 10.2 x 6.8 and it weighs 1.44 kg.
