Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. Reprint of 1972 edition, same extra-large format. 176 pp., oversize folio hardcover, about 15 X 18 inches, fully illustrated wtih photos. Light wear to covers, hinges holding well, no owner's name. One serious flaw: The bottom edge of the book has had some water damage, so the lower section of the text has some waviness and there is some staining to the bottom margin of the images. No staining to the images themselves, just the blank margins. Priced according to condition.

Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Very good minus. B/w Photos By Curtis (illustrator). Reprint. 176pp. Larger format oblong folio [37.5 cm x 46 cm] Photographically illustrated paper covered boards. Binding a bit loose. Light scuffing and soiling to the extremities; presentation inscription on the front free endpaper. Small gouge to cover, exposing underlying board. Will require extra postage due to size and weight. A. D. Coleman writes, "The portraits are, quite simply, superb. Compositionally, they have a classic purity and strength which seems ageless. Natural light is employed by Curtis in a consistently brilliant way to emphasize both obvious and subtle marks of character in a face, to establish the mood of each individual portrait, and to create an unusual feeling of space within a two-dimensional image. "In these portraits Curtis worked as a cartographer, reading each face as a map of the past and of the character of each sitter. Unlike other Indian photographers, who had photographed their subjects without attention to pose or environment, Curtis sought always to bring out the individual qualities of the men, women, and children before his lens.".
