Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Bip Pares -- Cover Art (illustrator). First Edition. the page edges are slightly darkened with age, both front and rear free end pages have offset tanning from the dustwrapper, with some text in reverse. Visiting card, filled out for Christmas, pasted to the front end page. With dustjacket price clipped. Short tears, light chipping to the tail of the spine, small chip to the top right of the rear panel. A very good copy. The story of Henrietta Condon is founded on fact, for it is based on the life of a pioneer woman doctor who never attained fame, although her career was a remarkable one. Henrietta Condon, like a prototype, live to be 100 years old and her memory stretched back to the Coronation of Queen Victoria. Shortly after the Coronation she went with her family to Australia. Adelaide was then a primitive town of rough houses and tense and Henrietta  a game like the original  spent her first night in a hammock slung between trees in what is now the main street of the city.  Dustjacket blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 317, [3] pages. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Bip Pares -- Cover Art. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Fiction; Australia; Inventory No: 0249115. Hard Cover. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Dust Jacket. First Edition. First UK Edition. Publisher's mid-blue boards lettered in black. The book-plate and signature of the former owner (Caroline Haslett) on the front paste-down otherwise an attractive VG+ copy. In the RARE Bip Pares-designed D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap as called for. The D/W is very slightly darkened to the spine and lightly frayed at the spine tips but overall an attractive example. A much nicer copy than normally seen. Novel based on the life of a pioneer woman doctor from Australia who finds success in America where she practiced for many years among the poor of New York and Boston.

First Edition. Bip Pares dustjacket art. Novel based on the life of a pioneer woman doctor from Australia who finds success in America where she practiced for many years among the poor of New York and Boston. "Returning to England in her late middle age, she continued her medical work and was among the first to start slum clearance schemes. The Great War found her still active, although she was then eighty." Rather uncommon example of a Bip Pares dustjacket, having been produced on some kind of paper-thin wood veneer. Very Good, faded spine tips, front endpaper removed and top part of half-title page torn away, in Very Good dustjacket, shallow chipping at spine ends and flap corners, edges with some short closed tears and wear.

Single Sheet of Artboard. Zustand: Very Good-. Bip Pares (illustrator). Original Artwork. Original Bip Pares gouache and watercolor painting for the 1937 dust jacket to Give Me To-Morrow by Shirley Darbyshire. Artboard measures 7.5 x 10.75 inches. Painted in fuchsia and aqua, the striking art-deco design features a classical bust of a woman on cardstock that was mounted on the artboard for a relief-effect. A pencil notation at top provides production details ("combination line & hone [?] (120 screen for printing)). Signed by Pares at bottom right of image. On verso, a typed note affixed by tape asking the artwork to be returned to publisher Nicholson & Watson, with their Paternoster Row address. Slight smudges and soiling, with artboard slightly degraded along left margin. A fine example of consummate art-deco design by dust jacket illustrator Bip Pares. Born Ethel Pares, 1904, her juxtaposition of pink with green-blue seems a signature hallmark of her talent to maximize effect within the stricture of a budget-conscious two-color printing scheme. As for Shirley Darbyshire, this title is one of the more elusive in her body of work, with eight institutional holdings recognized by OCLC. Her novels, involving reversals of fortune, set among the English aristocracy in London and the country, were favorably reviewed. Given the half-mast bedroom eyes of Bip Pares's dust jacket portrait, one would be enticed to open Give Me To-Morrow. .
