The spine is somewhat faded with pieces out of the head & tail & 1 tiny piece out of the mid-section. 191 pp. There is light staining to the endpapers. B&W frontispiece depicting the New York Institute for the Blind. Very good internally. These letters were written by a blind poetess from Rochester, NY who, after her husband's death, attended the New York Institute for the Blind in New York City. A number of letters describe her travels around New York State including a trip back to Rochester via the Hudson River and the Catskills.

March 30th 1868.' Contemporary owner (or recipient's) signature below. Original cloth; spine ends worn; very good. The frontispiece (a bit foxed and darkened) is of the New York Institution for the Blind. Widowed and blinded early, the author actively lectured and inspired others for about a half-century. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
