Date: 1939 // Size: 15.5 x 23.5 inches // Artist: Derouet & Lesacq // About The Poster: Created in 1933, the French National Lottery became widely popular after the media coverage of barber Paul Bonhoure's win of five million francs in the first draw. In a very enlightening article "Loterie Nationale: Mythes et symboles" written in 1969, the influential French journalist and author of many books on consumerism, education, and advertising propose an in-depth analysis of posters commissioned by the French lottery. // The lottery was said to have hired some of France's best designers, developing a corpus of some of the most effective posters in history. This particular piece is signed Derouet-Lesacq who did a large number of pieces for the French lottery. The pair was composed of Edgar Derouet, artist and printer, and Charles Lesacq, artist. // This particular poster is in keeping with their usual approach of placing a stylized character front-and-center and respecting a very clean style. In lovely condition and ready to frame.

Kunst / Grafik / Poster Erstausgabe
Zustand: Fine. Edgar Derouet, Charles Lesacq (illustrator). 1st Edition. This is one of a series of beautiful Art Deco posters created for the Loterie Nationale (National Lottery) in France by artists Edgar Derouet and Charles Lesacq. This Art Deco style poster is for a lottery drawing to support the tourism industry during the waning days of the Great Depression and just a year before France would become Nazi-occupied territory. The man in the center of the image is holding up a French lottery ticket along with a map of the French countryside while a camera or binocular case swings by his side. This poster is the result of a collaboration with Charles Lesacq, who worked with Derouet from 1938 to 1940. Edgar Derouet (1910-2001), though primarily known for these French Lottery posters, as is Lesacq, also worked on artwork for the 1948 summer Olympics. This poster is linen backed and in excellent condition.
