Hardcover first printing with dustjacket, this is Volume 2 only, book is in nearly new condition, a minor bump to the bottom corner is the only flaw, dustjacket is quite nice also, very clean and pleasing to the eye, the original price is present and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included, a small edge-chip at the top of the front panel and light wear at top edge of spine are the only flaws, illustrated with a color frontis and black and white photographs, including a mounted photo on the front panel of the dustjacket, bibliography and index.

Spine lightly sunned; slightly shaken copy which lacks ffep. A little minor pencil lining to margins and date in pencil to title page but no further annotation or inscriptions. Overall condition very good. Detailed study of the natural history of the Lothian, Fife and Stirling area of the River Forth, including mammals, birds and habitat. The Vertebrate Fauna of Scotland was begun by J A Harvie-Brown intending to study each river catchment area in the country; some areas were completed by other naturalists as he died before his work was finished, and Rintoul and Baxter were requested to take up the task.

A first edition copy of this illustrated work on animal life in Forth, by the Scottish ornithologists and lifelong friends Rintoul and Baxter. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Illustrated with a frontispiece, fifteen further plates, and a folding colour map to the rear. Collated, complete. Leonora Jeffrey Rintoul (1878-1953) and Evelyn Vida Baxter (1879-1959) were Scottish ornithologists. Rintoul was a rare female member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Baxter was the first woman to receive Union Medal of the British Ornithological Union. They were lifelong friends, and together they studied bird migration for 20 years, which led to several publications, including The Birds of Scotland in 1953. This is their work on vertebrate fauna in Forth, Scotland, which covers mammals, birds, bird migration, reptiles, amphibians and fish. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, fairly smart, with a few small marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Very Good. book.
