Includes an essay from Hoagy Carmichael, signed letter from Hoagy Carmichael and William Trego (the book's publisher) describing the concept for the book, two 8 x 10 black and white photographs (one of Everett Garrison and his family and the other of Hoagy Carmichael building a rod), a letter dated 1918 from Garrison to his mother describing his experiences in the Army during WWI, a notecard from the publisher William D. Trego to the original book's owner. A scarce title that is highly sought after.

Inscribed in 1980 by Hoagy Carmichael to a student of his, the bamboo rodmaker Peter Phelps, on the half-title, below Seaman's drawing. Slipcase somewhat rubbed, else a fine copy. Publisher's brown morocco, gilt, thin gilt rules framing the boards, gilt spine title and devices between raised bands, green silk endpapers, all edges gilt, publisher's glassine dust jacket (tired, eroding along front joint) and half-leather and marbled board clamshell box, gilt title on spine.
