Some offset tanning to endpapers The one page letter, only date 16 December, Somerville College, Oxford begins, "Dear Kathleen, I always feel very timid about choosing a book for you! . ." Mary Madge Lascelles, was a British literary scholar, specialising in Jane Austen, Shakespeare, Samuel Johnson, and Walter Scott. She was vice-principal of Somerville College, Oxford, from 1947 to 1960, and a university lecturer then reader in English literature 1960 from to 1967 at the University of Oxford. Kathleen Tillotson was a British academic and literary critic, professor of English and distinguished Elizabethan and Victorian scholar. From the collection / stock of the late Ian Jackson, with seven lines of his notes in pencil on rear pastedown, i.e. "Kathleen Tillotson's copy from Jarndyce." Very Good , in protective mylar wrap.

Cloth. Zustand: Very Good ++. First Edition. 1st Edition 1952. An envelope (unfortunately now empty), addressed to Sassoon and postmarked August 1952, was taped to the front endsheet. Sime and Sassoon corresponded in the 1950s and he owned several other books by her. From the Library of Siegfried Sassoon and Sold by Sotheby?s in 1991.The book carries the Sassoon monogram which confirms that it came from his own library and was later sold at auction. Reminiscences of Georgina Sime (1868-1858), British writer, Sime's close friend Frank Nicholson was Librarian of the University of Edinburgh from 1910 to 1939. He was editor and collaborator for much of her work. Book is very good++ and bright. Contents good. Small corner bump. The wrapper is very good+ and bright. Light edge rubbing.
