(TENNESSEE REGIMENTAL). GUILD, George B[lackmore]. A Brief Narrative of the Fourth Tennessee Cavalry Regiment: Wheeler's Corps, Army of Tennessee. Nashville, TN: [N.P.], 1913. 1st ed. 268 pp. Portrait frontis. Orig. cloth, T.E.G. Some shelfwear, else a very good copy. The 4th Tennessee Cavalry, under the command of Col. Braxton Smith, was not organized until after Bragg's Kentucky campaign of 1862. Unknown to the regiment's founders, there was already another regiment with the same name: Col. Stearnes' 4th Tennessee Cavalry under Gen. Forrest. Guild served as the adjutant of the regiment and, at the end of the war in North Carolina, as adjutant of Thomas Harrison's brigade (then commanded by Col. Baxter Smith. After the war, Guild was a two-term mayor of his native Nashville and an officer in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War. Dornbusch II, 987.
