"A small woman with a very large career, Hayes focused with directness, clarity and simplicity on Aspen and, more than that, on the people of Aspen, in her newspaper stories, her photographs and her books. Moving to Aspen in 1952, Hayes went to work almost immediately as a reporter and photographer at The Aspen Times, then a struggling small-town weekly. After working at the Times for two years, Hayes took 18 years off to raise her family while still working constantly as a freelance writer and photographer and helping run the family s earthmoving business and her husband Jim s silversmith business. " (from The Aspen Times; Jan 29, 2015) ; Signed by Author.

Spiralbound Softcover. Zustand: Very Good. Fourth Edition. In Very Good+ condition. Mary Eshbaugh moved to Aspen in 1952, joining the staff at the Aspen Times as a photographer and reporter. After a short stint in Denver, she moved to Aspen and soon after married Jim Hayes, an Aspenite renowned for his silversmith skills. She is the author of several popular books about Aspen, including Aspen Potpourri, a 50-year overview on the families and characters that make up this unique town. Though the former editor-in-chief and associate editor at the Aspen Times, Hayes is most recently known for her society column, Around Aspen, which ran in the Aspen Times Weekly for decades. Hayes was a fixture on the Aspen social and community scene, always at events to take pictures and talk with the people attending. Thousands of her photos will be preserved in the Aspen Historical Society archives for future generations to enjoy. Signed by Author.

Erstausgabe
Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stiff pictorial covers, plastic spiral-bound, 130 pages, b&w photographs throughout. All kind of recipes from Aspen townsfolk - retailers, hoteliers, chefs, ski-instructors, teachers, artists - with not only photographs of them but also of Aspen historical and natural sites. Besides being a "local" cookbook, the book is a wonderful time capsule of Aspen as a small town in the Rockies before it became an international destination for the rich and famous who skied or didn't. Copies in library collections are not uncommon, but the title is seldom found on the commercial market. Clean, solidly bound copy.
