Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. This set of seven Top Flight Readers, including the teacherâs manual, by Henry A. Bamman and Robert J. Whitehead, is a fascinating piece of education and literacy history. Published in 1977, these short books of stories were intended to provide middle grade to high school students with engaging accounts of aviation with which to improve their literacy. Each of the six volumes of stories is focussed on a specific type of aircraft. These volumes include: Barnstormers, Bush Pilot, Balloon, Test Pilot, Hang Glider, and Chopper. As noted in the introduction, the authors have paid careful attention to repeating basic vocabulary while accurately communicating the realities of aviation. Particular attention has been given to including stories of female aviators. Overall this set is in Very Good condition. The six books of stories are hardcover, while the teacherâs manual is softcover. Some of the volumes have some staining to the covers, and the volume of Hang Glider stories has a bit of a lean. There is also general minor wear and bumping to ends of spines and corners. The back of the soft cover teacherâs manual has some tearing to the top layer of the cover where a price sticker was once affixed, and the main volumes have stamps from Queen Elizabeth School on the front flyleaf. Given the number of volumes and resulting weight, this set may require extra postage costs.…
