Illustrated by 23 full page wood engravings, including frontispiece and by 16 tailpiece line drawings, all by Tunnicliffe. Decorated by owl device on title page. First format printing of the first illustrated edition of Tarka the Otter, with the illustration taken from p.193, later replaced by the frontispiece in reprints. The colophon has the addition 'and illustrated by C. F. Tunnicliffe by the Taw and Torridge Rivers in 1932' The novel was begun by Williamson in June 1923 and finished in February 1927 in the village of Ham, Devon.
