Erstausgabe
79 pp. 23x16 cm. In original illustrated wrappers. No spine, covers almost detached, water stain on the upper inner corner. First edition. One of 5000 copies. Rare. Cover design features a small industrial composition dedicated to a proletarian writer Maxim Gorky. This is the earliest work of biographer of Gorky, literary historian and critic, Ilya Gruzdev (1892-1960). Gruzdev is the author of biographies and sketches written in 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1930, 1938, 1946 and 1958. He knew little-known facts but didn't open up everything: Gruzdev and Gorky sent each other more than two hundred letters in 1925-1936. The most complete (as possible) biography of Gorky, written by Gruzdev, was published in the series 'The Lives of Remarkable People' (1958). Some facts about Gorky weren't available throughout the Soviet rule and Stalinist period in particular. Worldcat shows the only paper copy located in University of Notre Dame.
