Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. 16mo (16.5 x 9.5 cms). Vol. 1: [8], ix-cxx, [4], 5-246, frontispiece; vol. 2: [6], vii-xi, [3], 3-391. Blue-green cloth; gilt pictorial design to the upper boards (the design common to volumes in The Muses Library at this period); gilt lettering and decoration to the spines. Top edges gilt; other edges untrimmed. Frontispiece portrait with tissue guard in vol. 1. Title pages in red and black with the publisher?s decorative monogram. Long critical introduction by Robert Bridges. In Lawrence and Bullen?s The Muses Library series. CONDITION. Externally poor, mainly due to the fact that the spines are extremely dulled and variously crushed and scuffed at crown and toe. In addition, some corners are bumped, board edges scuffed, and the board surfaces generally a little grubby, with some wrinkling in places. The inner hinges of vol. 1 are torn but internally both volumes are otherwise good, the binding firm and the pages clean. Both volumes have two owner?s signatures in ink on their front free endpapers, the first (erased) dated 1896, the second dated 1903. Vol. I has a further, modern, owner?s signature in pencil. Vol. 1 also has on the verso of the half title page three pressed flowers and the manuscript inscription: ?Violets from the grave of Keats. Old Protestant Cemetery Rome. 1897. Feb:?.
