Zustand: new. (Paperback, 1964). (1963) 1964 German paperback edition. 8vo (137 x 215mm). Pp106,ads. B/w line illustrations. Slight use, small book-seller's stamp to title-page but very good, second-hand paperback. A real classic of chalkstream fishing for trout and grayling. Kite took the methods and ideas of Skues and Sawyer, explaining them in a lucid and popular way. He was a neighbour of Sawyer, who was a river-keeper on the Hampshire Avon, and spent two years learning the subject from him. This is the German translation, "translated and revised by Dr. Rudolf Loebell." "Time does not stand still, and whoever may think that angling has reached its zenith with the use of fine tackle and artificial flies needs to re-educate themselves once again. What appeared impossible yesterday has today become reality. The finest of all methods of angling, the dry-fly, has given way to nymph-fishing, an entirely new method which is not merely of equally high birth, but in its sporting qualities perhaps exceeds it. The author bases this work on his experiences in the five years from 1957 to 1962. He describes in finest detail, everything appertaining to nymph fishing." The translator, Rudolf Loebell has adapted the text somewhat so that Kite's advice and experience can be applied more usefully to the circumstances in which the German angler finds himself. .
